Dunns Creek, Buffalo Bluff and What the River Did
Call us if the river is rising or a line has broken. We cover Palatka and East Palatka, and the assessment and estimate are free.
The National Weather Service records tell the story better than any general warning. Hurricane Ian in 2022 set records just upriver, 3.73 feet above normal high tide at Dunns Creek and 3.36 feet at Buffalo Bluff, and the marks it beat came from Matthew in 2016. NWS blamed trapped tides and wind. Flooding lingered through the following weekend, reaching dozens of homes in Welaka and Satsuma.
Matthew reached the Palatka area directly. The boat ramp at Eglin Grove in East Palatka was over-washed by 3 to 4 feet, East River Road flooded, and metal roofing rolled up near Crill and SR 19. Irma was a rain event here: close to 11 inches fell north of East Palatka, and a Palatka nursing home flooded, with evacuations ordered, on the night of September 10.

Water Damage Restoration in Palatka When the Tide Cannot Leave
Plan around the outflow, not the rain gauge. The National Weather Service says water piled up in the river basin for a couple of days under onshore wind before Matthew, then surge, high tide and northerly wind arrived together. Ian added inland rain, and the National Hurricane Center ties totals of 10 to 20 inches to major floods on the St. Johns affecting Putnam County.
A clear sky here does not mean the water has crested. We extract, flood cut and dry once entry is safe. Ask the county building office for a floodplain determination on your address before you plan repairs.
Which Services Matter Along the River and in Older Homes
Start here, based on what you can see from a safe spot. A slow-rising river and a broken pipe call for very different plans.
What customers say
5.0 stars on Google from 8 reviews. Quoted as written.
“I needed a second opinion on my water damage cleanup but about 5 minutes after Dal showed up I realized I should have contacted 1 Call FIRST. They immediately got to work drying out my house and explained everything so well which helped relieve so much of the anxiety I was feeling. The communication and work was all top notch. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!”
“Very impressive service. Dal and his team responded to our call immediately and were out the same day to begin the remediation process. Would highly recommend 1Call Restoration.”

How We Reach You Over SR 207 and the Memorial Bridge
We drive SR 207 from St. Augustine past Hastings to East Palatka, then cross the Memorial Bridge on US 17 into town. After a storm, fallen trees can slow that drive, and we will tell you what we see.
The owner, Dal Beggs, answers. He runs the company with his son, so you are not relayed through a call center. Emergencies can call at any hour, and other calls fit best between 7am and 7pm.
Here is what you get from the first visit: a free assessment, moisture readings, photos of the rooms before demolition, and a written scope. In an older house we explain what can dry in place, because original materials are usually worth saving.

North and South Historic District Homes After the 1884 Fire
Palatka burned on November 7, 1884, and its downtown came back in brick. Around it stand the North and South Historic Districts, both on the National Register, with Victorian, Colonial Revival, Classical Revival, Art Deco and Prairie School buildings. The city counted 10,446 people and 4,587 housing units in 2020. A 2017 survey estimate showed most units single-family, plus about 890 multi-family units and 319 mobile homes, so a street can mix very different construction.
That mix drives the job. Modern drywall and old plaster dry differently. If your home sits on piers, water under the floor is its own drying problem, and we want to see it from below. A mobile home brings its own wet insulation and belly board concerns.

Rules matter too. The city requires a Certificate of Appropriateness from its Historic Preservation Board before a permit for exterior work in the district. So we separate interior drying, which should not wait, from exterior repairs, which may need that approval. Permit applications now begin with Putnam County through its CitizenServe system, even inside the city, and the city then does its own review from North 2nd Street. The county's office on Crill Avenue covers homes outside city limits. Palatka's own utility supplies city water from one treatment plant. ZIPs are 32177 and 32178.
Palatka questions
How long can St. Johns River flooding last around Palatka?
Longer than most people expect. The river is slow, and northeast wind can hold tide in the basin. After Ian in 2022, the National Weather Service reported flooding in moderate to major categories into the following weekend upriver. Do not wait for it to fall before calling. We can scope the work, plan equipment and be ready to start when access is safe.
Do I need Historic Preservation Board approval for water damage repairs?
For exterior work in a Palatka historic district, yes. The city says repairs, alterations, replacement and demolition need a Certificate of Appropriateness before a building permit. Interior drying generally does not raise that question, so it should not wait. Before touching siding, windows or porches, check the district map through Putnam County GIS and ask the city first.
Is East Palatka handled differently from the city of Palatka?
For us, only by the bridge. For permits, partly. Both start with Putnam County, because the city consolidated permit processing with the county in 2018. Homes inside city limits also need City of Palatka review, while East Palatka stays with the county office at 2509 Crill Avenue. Water service also differs, since the city utility has its own system. Check your bill and your tax record if you are unsure which side you fall on.
