When does water removal need to happen tonight?
Most water should come out now, and some can wait for morning. Decide by the source, the surface and whether it is still spreading.
| What you see | Tonight or morning? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Water still running | Tonight | Every minute adds to the wet area |
| Soaked carpet or pad | Tonight | Pad holds water against the subfloor |
| Water at wall bases | Tonight | Drywall wicks it upward |
| Sewage or flood water | Tonight | Category 3 water needs safe handling |
| Water under vinyl plank | Tonight | It stays trapped and hidden |
| Small clean spill, dried, on tile | Morning | No wicking and no spread |

The EPA advises discarding items that stay wet for more than 24 to 48 hours when they cannot be dried and cleaned. That window is why a wet night is worth a phone call.
What puts water on the floor after dark here
Expect one of four sources around St. Augustine: a failed supply line, a water heater, a clogged AC drain or rain driven in by a storm. We see about 50 inches of rain a year on about 116 rain days, with August the wettest month at about 7.4 inches. That wet air is why a soaked room will not dry overnight with the windows open.
You are past the towel stage when the carpet squishes underfoot, water sits under the cabinets, wall bases feel damp or a shop vac fills faster than the floor clears.
What can you do before extraction starts?
Your job is to stop the spread, not to finish the job. Stop the water at the valve, then cut power to wet rooms from a dry place. After that, work on what you can reach safely.
- Set towels at doorways to keep water from moving to other rooms
- Lift rugs and light furniture off wet carpet
- Move electronics, papers and photo albums to a dry shelf
- Close doors to the wet rooms
- Take photos before you move anything big
Skip the hair dryer, the box fan and the bleach. None of these reaches the water that matters.
What does open 24 hours mean here?
It means an emergency call is welcome at any hour, and it reaches the owner. It does not mean an arrival number, because we do not publish one. Dal will tell you what we can do and when, based on where we are and what the roads look like.
Calls about older stains or quotes are best between 7am and 7pm. If it is the middle of the night and you are not sure which you have, call anyway.
What a water removal visit covers
Removal is the first stage of the job, not all of it. We get the liquid out, protect what is still dry and leave the rooms set up to keep drying after we go.
We start by reading how far the water went, because wet carpet usually means wet pad and often a wet wall base. Soaked pad leaves on that visit so it stops feeding the room, and drying equipment runs with the room closed, since our outdoor air is too wet to help.
- Standing water pumped or extracted from floors, carpet and pad
- Moisture meter and thermal camera checks on floors and wall bases
- Wet pad and other material that cannot dry taken out
- Furniture and contents lifted clear of the wet floor
- Air movers and LGR dehumidifiers set in closed rooms
- Photos and a written scope before heavy work
The pipe repair is not part of this. That goes to a plumber, and we start once the water is off. Sewage or flood water follows our sewage cleanup rules, with protective gear and more removal.

Extraction equipment and its trade-offs
Each tool does one thing well, so we match it to the water. Here is how they compare:
| Equipment | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Submersible pump | Deep standing water in garages and low rooms | Stops working at a thin film |
| Portable extractor with wand | Carpet, pad and hard floors | Must go room by room |
| Wet vacuum | Small areas and tight corners | Weak on soaked pad |
| Air movers and LGR dehumidifiers | Moisture left after extraction | Cannot replace extraction |

Think of it as two jobs. Water extraction takes out the liquid, and structural drying takes out what soaked in. Drying gear cannot do its job on a floor that still holds water.
The industry's reference standard, ANSI/IICRC S500, is a consensus document, not a law. We work toward the same dry goal it describes and prove it with daily readings. Speed matters for one more reason: mold work over 10 square feet falls under state DBPR licensing, and that is a different job from extraction.
The night of the call, in order
Here is how water removal runs from the phone call to the first night of drying.
- You call, we talk through safety and the source, and we tell you when we can get there.
- We walk the home, check hazards and take photos.
- We read the floors and walls with a moisture meter and thermal camera, then set the water category.
- You get the estimate and a written scope.
- We extract with a submersible pump or portable extractor, pull water from carpet and pad, and remove anything that cannot be dried.
- We set air movers and LGR dehumidifiers, close up the rooms and tell you when we will be back to take readings.

Expect some noise. Drying equipment runs day and night, and it stays until readings reach the dry standard.
Nights and weekends: how the price works
The estimate comes first, on a weeknight or a holiday. You see it before we start.
Your assessment and estimate on a water damage job are free, with no high-pressure sale attached. Five things move the number in a St. Augustine home:
- Wet area: how many rooms got wet, and how far water ran along the slab
- Water category: Category 3 water adds protective gear, disinfection and more removal
- Flooring: carpet and pad, tile, or vinyl plank that has to lift to reach the water under it
- Equipment days: how long the readings take to reach the dry standard, which humid weeks can stretch
- Access: stairs, upper floors and rooms full of furniture
Ask us to explain any line you do not follow.
Filing a claim is your decision. If you do, we will go over the steps and supply the job's photos and logs. Whether anything is paid is up to your insurer.
Where we take water removal calls
We take these calls from Clay, Duval, St. Johns, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties, and the emergency water damage page shows what else we handle. Inland neighborhoods such as World Golf Village, St. Johns and Fruit Cove carry their own risks, such as failed supply lines and slab leaks.
Rules that touch a late-night water job
The City of St. Augustine's storm recovery guide lists removing wet or damaged materials as no-permit work, and it lists structural and drywall repairs as permit work. The department has the final say. Outside city limits, ask St. Johns County Building Services or your city's building office.
Read what you sign, even at 2am. F.S. 627.7152(13) bars assigning post-loss benefits on property policies issued on or after January 1, 2023, so question any paper that asks you to. Your policy wording and your adjuster decide what applies to you.
Ask any company for its license number and check it on the DBPR site, ours included.
Why call 1 Call in the middle of the night
A late call should end with a plan, not a sales pitch. Here is what you get:
- The owner on the line, not a call center
- A family-owned local company, founded in 2020
- An honest call on whether it can wait until morning
- No high-pressure sales
Dal Beggs started the company in 2020 and runs it with his son, so the person who answers at night can decide what happens next. We would rather tell you a dry tile spill can wait for daylight than sell you a visit you do not need. When the water does have to come out, you hear what we can do and when before anyone leaves.

Frequently asked questions
Will a shop vac do the job until you get here?
No, not on its own. It helps on a small hard floor, as long as the water is clean and nothing electrical is wet. It will not pull water out of carpet pad or a wall. Use a grounded outlet in a dry room, keep the cord out of the water and stop if you feel any tingle. Never use one on sewage or floodwater.
Should I move furniture off wet carpet?
Yes, if you can lift it safely and the water is clean. Wood legs and metal feet stain carpet and wick water upward. Move light pieces to a dry room, or put foil or plastic under the legs of heavy ones. Take photos first. Leave anything heavy enough to hurt you, and take rugs off the carpet.
Is it safe to sleep in the house tonight?
Yes, usually, if the water has stopped, the wet rooms are closed off and no sewage or flood water got in. Do not sleep under a sagging ceiling or in a room with wet outlets. If you have any gas smell, leave. On the call we can talk through your situation.
How much water can extraction actually pull out?
Extraction removes the liquid water, which is the great majority of what you can see and feel, but not what soaked into walls and framing. That is the job of drying. We extract thoroughly because every pint pulled out now is water the dehumidifiers do not have to take out of the air over the next days.
Are towels worth using on a wet floor?
Yes, on hard floors with clean water, and especially at doorways to stop water reaching other rooms. Wring them outside the room, and do not use them on sewage or floodwater. They will not reach water under carpet or vinyl plank, so treat them as a holding action. Change them as they fill.
Why will you not promise an arrival time online?
Because a posted number would be a guess. Where we are, what job we are on, road closures and tides all affect it, so we tell you on the phone. Quick response matters to us, and so does telling you the truth. Reach the owner and you will hear a real answer that fits your address.
